TL;DR
- Treat manufacturing as a chain of freeze points: brief, platform, sample, golden sample, mass production, ship.
- Schedules and MOQ are quote-specific. Yawell confirms sampling and production after the platform and changes are reviewed (service FAQ).
- Public QC language includes incoming inspection, in-line testing, and final random inspection; third-party inspection can be discussed.
- Process maps do not replace factory verification (12-point checklist).
Start With a Brief, Not a Catalog Click
A useful brief states:
- Target markets and launch window
- Volume band (first PO and year-1)
- Path: OEM / ODM / private label (path guide)
- Change list by layer (customization map)
- App path and data needs
Sign an NDA before detailed drawings or app requirements when the project needs confidential exchange (Yawell service page).
Stage Map
| Stage | Buyer output | Factory output |
|---|---|---|
| Brief and NDA | Markets, volume band, path, change list | NDA, feasibility questions |
| Platform selection | Chosen reference model or OEM brief | Feasibility and quote outline |
| Sample | Feedback on fit, function, packaging | Sample units and sample terms |
| Golden sample | Signed approval | Frozen BOM and work instructions |
| Mass production | Deposit and PO per terms | Built lots with QC records |
| Ship | Incoterms and forwarder choice | Goods ready or shipped per terms |
Sample time and mass-production time are different clocks (MOQ and lead time guide).
Platform Selection
For ODM and private label, pick a reference model early. Yawell publishes six ring models with model-level pages for materials, charging, and reports where files exist (ring line). Evaluate reports per model. Do not merge waterproof claims across the catalog.
For OEM, the platform step is a design package review: mechanical, electronic, firmware intent, and test plan before tooling deposits.
Sample and Golden Sample
Samples prove a unit. Golden sample freezes the standard mass production should match.
Write down:
- Sample fee and credit rule
- Number of free revision loops
- What “approved” means (photos, measurements, app build number)
- Who signs
Late changes after golden sample are new work, not free polish.
Mass Production and QC
Yawell’s public FAQ language: production includes incoming material inspection, in-line testing, and final random inspection. Third-party inspection can be discussed. Model-level reports are shared where a report source is on file.
Ask for the QC/AQL reference on the same quote as MOQ. A good sample with no production inspection plan is a common failure mode (see the buyer checklist).
Shipment
Agree Incoterms and who pays freight before the first bulk lot. Samples often use express courier; bulk may use EXW, FOB, CIF, or DDP style terms (Yawell support FAQ). Landed cost is not the same as EXW unit price.
What Can Slip the Schedule
- Incomplete brief (missing markets or app path)
- Artwork freeze late
- Firmware or app scope growth after sample
- Certification work not on the critical path
- Verbal MOQ that never reaches the PO
Process Checklist for Buyers
- NDA when needed
- Path and base model written
- Layer change list attached
- Sample terms on quote
- Golden sample signed
- MOQ, price tiers, production days after sign-off
- QC/AQL named
- Incoterms named
- Factory evidence checked (license, certs, audit)
FAQ
1. How long does the full process take?
It depends on path, customization, capacity, and certification. Yawell quotes sampling and production after platform and changes are reviewed. Do not treat competitor marketing calendars as your contract.
2. Can I skip golden sample?
You can, at your risk. Without a freeze, mass production has no shared reference when quality disputes appear.
3. When should third-party inspection happen?
Usually on the production lot, not only on engineering samples. Discuss timing and AQL before deposit.
4. Does a process map prove the supplier is a real factory?
No. Run factory verification in parallel (checklist).
